「SD Jeongche」 is an expanded and updated version of 「Sandoll Jeongche」 which was released in 2019-2021 with the goal of developing an excellent body text font.

The structure of 「SD Jeongche」 is designed to make it easy to distinguish each character, and the outlines of the strokes have distinct shapes. The family is expanded around three axes: skeleton, weight, and width, so that the characters can create different atmospheres while maintaining consistency. The name "SD Jeongche" is followed by a three-digit number. The first digit, skeleton, indicates the degree of contemporaneity, and a higher number means a more contemporary style. The second digit indicates the weight, and a higher number means a heavier weight. The third digit indicates width, and a smaller number indicates a narrower style.

35 Latin-related languages can be written correctly with 「SD Jeongche」. The “i” that comes after the three-digit numbers in the style name means “italic,” and only Latin can be written with the italic style.

The number “3” of the third digit refers to the default weight for body text, so 530, 630, 730, 830, 930, and 030 are suitable for setting large amounts of text in small sizes such as 10 point. While “3” is the “regular” weight, “9” is the “bold” weight, and is also the heaviest weight in the family. Therefore, 590 and 690 are the bold versions of 530 and 630, and are suitable for setting titles or short sentences in sizes above 18 point.

8,818 Korean characters were not included in 「Sandoll Jeongche」, but all 11,172 Korean characters are available in all weights in 「SD Jeongche」. In addition, the Latin (English) italic family and the Korean family, which were previously separated in 「Sandoll Jeongche」, have been combined into a single family for improved usability.

Punctuation marks are designed separately for Korean and Latin characters so that different languages can be written completely correctly. You can use them by selecting “Korean” in the “Language” menu of the “Character” panel in Adobe InDesign application. In addition, many options such as ligatures, fraction, subscripts/superscripts, and italic swashes can be applied in Adobe applications such as InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
