Sandoll Lava is a versatile serif typeface family, of which the styles at both extremes are for display purposes and the styles in-between are for typesetting large quantities of text.

It has 6 weights in total that can be used for certain purposes. By using ‘Light’ weight for long-from reading in 9-10 point size, along with ‘Thin’, ‘Bold’, and ‘Heavy’ weights for titles or short text in 24 point and above, various contents can be dealt with harmonious voices and a stable readability. Refined details of Sandoll Lava also aim for comfortable reading experiences in digital environments. Feel comfortable with ‘Light’ and ‘Regular’, and add points with ‘Thin’, ‘Bold’, and ‘Heavy’. 

In designing Sandoll Lava, we particularly focused on adjusting white spaces scattered in and out of letters to be consistent. The letters are designed to keep the same impression even if the weight is changed, and the spaces are fine-tuned based on the size which is expected to be used most frequently. In this reason, Hangul glyphs have fixed widths in ‘Light’ weight which is the basic weight as a text typeface, while those glyphs have a small range of various widths in other weights. 

Sandoll Lava was designed in collaboration with Typotheque, a type foundry based in Hague. Sandoll designed Hangul, and Typotheque designed Latin, Cyrillic, and Greek glyphs that cover all European languages. All European languages can be written correctly with Sandoll Lava. Punctuation marks which are used frequently with Hangul were designed separately and added. You can use them choosing “Korean” in the “Language” menu of the “Character” panel in Adobe InDesign application. In addition, numerous options like ligatures, small caps, figure styles (tabular/proportional, lining/old style), fraction, subscripts/superscripts can be applied in Adobe applications like InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
