  • Notice: Launch of New SD Sandoll Jeongche and Updates to Existing Jeongche (2025.01.16)

    2025-01-16

  • Hello, this is Sandoll Cloud.

We sincerely thank everyone who supports and loves Sandoll Cloud.

To provide an even more convenient and satisfying user experience, Sandoll Cloud continues to update its fonts based on user feedback, even after their release. The upcoming update for "Jeongche", scheduled for release in January 2025, is no exception.

Since its launch in April 2019, it has been five years, and we’ve received numerous valuable feedback from our devoted users. Notably, in a 2023 survey to prioritize extensions for Jeongche, many users expressed the need for heavier weights. We’re excited to reflect this feedback in the upcoming update.

While this update aims to enhance usability, we recognize concerns about potential differences in layout when switching from the previous version of "Sandoll Jeongche" to the updated version.

    For example:

    • A single-line text may extend to two lines.
    • A four-line text may reduce to three lines.

To minimize any inconvenience, we are providing detailed information about the update in advance.
The update will be applied on January 16, 2025, at 12 PM (KST).

    Update Details

No Changes to the Original Sandoll Jeongche

The existing "Sandoll Jeongche" will remain unchanged. However, we are introducing "SD Jeongche", which includes all updates.

    What's Changing?

    1. Font Name Change: From "Sandoll Jeongche" to "SD Jeongche"

Since March 2023, Sandoll has used the abbreviation "SD" instead of the full name "Sandoll" for font branding. Accordingly, the updated "Jeongche" will be rebranded as "SD Jeongche."

We decided against applying updates to the existing "Sandoll Jeongche" to avoid unintentional changes to existing designs.

If you wish to apply the updates, you must activate "SD Jeongche" through Sandoll Cloud's website or Goormdari. Upon activation, you can use the January 2025 version, which includes the following updates:

    2. Specification Updates

    • New Styles Added: Four new styles—590, 690, 590i, and 690i—will be introduced.
The middle digit in the three-digit style number indicates weight, with higher numbers signifying heavier weights.
These bold styles are ideal for titles ranging from 18 to 24 points but are also readable at smaller sizes.
    • Expanded Character Set: 8,818 additional Korean characters have been included.
The previous "Sandoll Jeongche" left 2,354 out of 11,172 Korean characters as empty glyphs. The updated "SD Jeongche" now supports all 11,172 characters across all weights.

    3. Unified Font Family

Previously, technical limitations separated the Latin italic family and the Korean family in "Sandoll Jeongche".
With this update, all styles, including italic (e.g., 530i, 630i, 730i), will be combined into one seamless family under "SD Jeongche".

    Design Changes

    1. Improved Kerning

Kerning adjustments have been made to the existing styles (530, 630, 730, 830, 930, 030). This may result in layout differences if you switch from "Sandoll Jeongche" to "SD Jeongche."

    2. Removal of Empty Glyphs

Empty glyphs in the Japanese Kana area, previously included without any objects, have been removed.
